Management of rotator cuff calcific tendinosis guided by ultrasound elastography.
BACKGROUND Ultrasound (US) elastography can provide information about the hardness of calcification and might help decide treatment strategy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hardness of the calcific area within rotator cuffs by US elastography as an aid for the selection of aspiration or fine-needle repeated puncture for the treatment of rotator cuff calcific tendinosis. METHODS...
متن کاملRadial extracorporeal shock-wave therapy in rotator cuff calcific tendinosis.
The objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Radial Extracorporeal Shock-wave Therapy (RESWT) compared with High Power LASER Therapy (HPLT) for the treatment of patients with Rotator Cuff Calcific Tendinosis (RCCT). RCCT is widely diffused, it is painful and invalidating. It is an important public health problem with social and economic implications. The most common therapeuti...
متن کاملCalcific Tendinosis: A Potential Mimicker of Malignancy on PET
We report a case of a 53 year old female with breast cancer and elevated glucose activity at the left greater trochanter on PET imaging. Further imaging with CT and MRI showed that this focus of increased FDG activity on PET was calcific tendinosis of the gluteus medius tendon, which mimicked metastatic disease in this patient.
متن کاملTechnical Innovation Case Report: Ultrasound-Guided Prolotherapy Injection for Insertional Achilles Calcific Tendinosis
We describe the use of ultrasound guidance for hyperosmolar dextrose (prolotherapy) injection of the distal calcaneal tendon specifically just anterior to identified enthesophytes in patients with insertional Achilles calcific tendinosis refractory to conservative treatment. This specific technique has not to our knowledge been described or used in literature previously.
متن کاملTendinosis
Tendinosis is a troublesome clinical entity affecting many active people. Its treatment remains a challenge to sports medicine clinicians. The etiopathophysiology of tendinosis has not been well delineated. The known pathophysiology and the recent advances in the understanding of the etiologic process of tendinosis are discussed here, including new concepts in mechanotransduction and the bioche...
